garden.jpgDon’t Guess – Soil Test

April 3 - April 25, soil kits will be available at Shades of Green for soil testing.  The Oakland County MSU Extension will collect the soil samples from our nursery, perform the tests in a lab, and give the results to us when they are complete.  If possible, please drop off your soil tests on Fridays as they are picked up on Mondays.

“By having your soil tested you can learn which nutrients are present and which ones need to be added.  You can avoid over-application of fertilizers which can waste money, reduce plant quality and pollute streams, lakes and groundwater.  Based on soil test results, a custom fertilization program is developed to meet the needs of your plants and safeguard the environment.” –Oakland County MSU Extension

The tests will come with directions for you to collect 10 soil samples from your yard.  You will receive results within 2-3 weeks from pick-up.  You do not have to live in Oakland County to purchase a kit.  Cost is $18 per kit.  Please stop by in April if you are interested or have questions.
